Engine looks virtually new, and has been stored for last 5 years due to damaged boat. He says it was fresh and ran very well in 2001 when it was stored.

Dicer, The check engine light is controled by a vacuum switch on the fuel line at the powerhead. If the fuel line has a vacuum in it, the light is lit. I use 80W90 Pennzoil Marine gear lube in mine. Never had any issues. You can also use the Quick Silver 80W90 gear lube if you like purple oil and want to spend more $$. Compression, lower unit oil condition, trim operation and motor condition, overall apperance, noisy/quiet, etc. Make darn sure they've only had Champion plugs in them.<br /><br />Great motors. Great torque. Trace the wires from the back of the VRO to its rubber plug (electrical plug) and disconnect it. 2 - Trace the two wires from the oil tank to the engine, disconnect those two wires, then remove them and the oil tank. 3 - Mix the 50/1 oil in the proper amount with whatever quantity fuel you have. The "low oil" alarm is for when the oil resevoir is low.
