The Homunculus Servant can’t be gained until 6th level artificer, and has HP equal to its Con mod (+1), plus your Int mod, plus your levels in artificer. It’s more like a strong familiar than a full companion, not sure if that will be tanky enough for you. Definitely pick up the Eberron book so you can read all the details before deciding.
