AxR #1 eventually succumbed to Phylloxera and most of California wine country was left as a blank canvas. Vintners now had a chance to replant and rethink the entire structure of the vineyards, attention was paid to the terrior and unique varietlals were researched. This was truly a turning point in the wine industry as we know it.
The ‘15 AXR is a perfect combination of a great year meeting a top winemaker—and then given some time to rest in the winery’s cellar. Hoefliger is a true globe-hopping talent. After getting a viticultural degree in Switzerland, he did formative stints in Bordeaux at Château Carbonnieux and Château Lynch-Bages.
